Prof. Danladi Abok Atu,Director-General of Apudi Peace Institute of Peace and Social Rehabilitation has advocated for the Community Security Model as a response strategy for sustainable peace in Plateau State. He proposed this remedy in a Keynote Speech at the opening ceremony of the 2025 Travel Fellowship outing of Doctoral students of the Institute of Governance and Development Studies,Nasarawa State University Keffi. According to him communities affected by needless attacks by armed groups should be enabled to defend themselves and as well assume policing functions that are intelligence led,inclusive of all stakeholders in the community and integrated in the current national security architecture.
Representing theVice-Chancellor,Nasarawa State University,Prof. Andrew Zamani,Director of the Institute decried the recurrence of violent conflict in Nigeria and urgedleaders at all levels to make peaceful coexistence a priority to enable sustainable development. She emphasized the critical role of the academia in peacebuilding and commended the Institute for theme of the study tour that enables her students to interrogate internal security governance and the adequacy of the current structures for peace building and conflict resolution to guarantee national integration.
