2024/2025 ACADEMIC SESSION STUDENT ORIENTATION
Prof. Atu Harps on Academic Excellence
The Director General of the APUDI Institute for Peace Studies and Social Rehabilitation (APIS), Prof. Danladi Abok Atu, has emphasized the importance of academic excellence. He made this call while addressing postgraduate students of the APIS/NSUK 2024/2025 academic session during an orientation programme organized to induct students into various academic programmes.
In his welcome remarks, Prof. Atu commended the students for choosing to pursue postgraduate studies and expressed confidence in their potential to provide innovative solutions to contemporary societal challenges. He encouraged them to take their academic journey seriously, noting that the programme is designed to accommodate both academic learning and professional work, allowing students to “learn while they work.”
Representing the Vice-Chancellor of Nasarawa State University, Keffi (NSUK), Prof. Sa’adatu Hassan Liman, the Director of the Institute of Governance & Development Studies, Prof. Andrew Zamani, applauded the collaboration between APIS and NSUK, describing it as a bold step toward improving academic standards in Nigeria and beyond. He also commended Prof. Atu for initiating what he described as an academic revolution that promises to elevate the standard of postgraduate education in the country.
Prof. Zamani urged the students to approach their studies with dedication and integrity. He gave a brief lecture on ethics, stressing the significance of ethical standards in research and academic publications.
Other distinguished professors and scholars present also delivered goodwill messages and lectures, each emphasizing the need for academic discipline, excellence, and commitment to national development through scholarship.
Student representatives delivered a vote of thanks, appreciating the partnership between APIS and NSUK, and expressed optimism about the transformative impact of the programme.
The climax of the orientation was the formal induction of students into the Institute, conducted by Prof. Andrew Zamani on behalf of the NSUK Vice-Chancellor. Students were also briefed on the ground rules for the programme and introduced to the Student Handbook by the APIS Academic/Administrative unit.
Earlier in the day, Prof. Danladi Atu held an in-person lecture with the students on Advanced Philosophical Thought, setting the tone for the academic rigour expected throughout the programme.
