PROF. ATU TO LEAD IN STRENGTHENING GRASSROOTS SECURITY INTELLIGENCE MANAGEMENT INITIATIVES WITH NPF, DSS, ONSA, AND ALGON

In line with Mr President’s Renewed Security Initiative Policy of making Security programs Intelligence driven and Inclusive to ensuring Security and Crime Reduction in Nigeria, the Director of APUDI Institute For Peace Studies and Social Rehabilitation (APIS) Prof. Danladi Abok Atu has been appointed as the Lead Facilitator and Master Trainer for the upcoming four-day workshop on “Strengthening the Internal Security Structure through Effective Intelligence Management at the Community Level.”

The workshop, organized by the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) in collaboration with the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA), the Department of State Services (DSS), and the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), aims to equip security operatives and community leaders with advanced intelligence management strategies to bolster security nationwide.

The appointment was officially conveyed in a letter signed by DCP Nnanna Oji Ama, psc, mnips, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Intelligence), Force Intelligence Department (FID), Abuja.

As Lead Facilitator, Prof Atu will oversee the training sessions, coordinate discussions, guide the Local Organizing Committee (LOC), and spearhead the development of a Community Security Management Training Manual.

This initiative underscores the critical role of intelligence gathering and community engagement in tackling security challenges.

In response to the appointment, Prof Atu expressed gratitude for the opportunity to contribute to national security efforts, stating: “I am honored to lead this crucial training, which will empower stakeholders with the necessary skills to strengthen intelligence gathering and community policing. A well-structured intelligence framework at the grassroots is key to ensuring national security.”

The workshop is expected to bring together key stakeholders, including security personnel, community leaders, and intelligence experts, to develop actionable strategies for enhancing internal security especially at the the grassrootsot level in Nigeria.

In a proactive step to fulfill his mandate as Lead Facilitator for the upcoming workshop, Prof. Danladi Abok Atu has initiated a series of high-level consultations with critical stakeholders from the security sector and academia, by holding a meeting with the Commandant General of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Dr. Ahmed Abubakar Audi, the Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) in charge of Operations, DIG Ari Muhammed Ali, representatives of the ONSA, DSS, and ALGON. The engagement is aimed to align perspectives, foster collaboration, and ensure the workshop’s objectives are met with actionable, consensus-driven outcomes.

This proactive approach highlights Prof. Atu’s commitment to ensuring the workshop’s success and its potential to transform Nigeria’s security landscape through community-driven intelligence strategies.
